So the tank museum feels a little like looking at porn. I’m not sure how best to describe it. There are half a dozen huge sheds friggin‘ full of armored vehicles – mostly tanks, but self-propelled artillery also, and some half-tracks. Here’s a Pkw III. I spent a lot of my youth playing strategic wargames around WW II, and one of my favorites was Panzerblitz, involving armored combat on the eastern front. There are Nazi and Soviet tanks here, and „here“ is Kubinka, where there was combat at the gates of Moscow. It’s pretty friggin‘ cool.
A Panther. While a little high-maintenance, one of the best tanks of WW II. Definitely one of my favorites from Panzerblitz.
The only Maus with a turret, and the fucking Russians have it. It was strange to see this here (though I was looking for it) because I had asked the guys at Kummersdorf, where it was developed, about it. I figured they’d have one. Alas, the Russians took it. It was strange to stand here looking at it this afternoon and remember talking to the guys in Kummersdorf just a couple months ago. Germany seems very far away.
